This wonderful view is from one of my favourite places, the top end of Swaledale in North Yorkshire, where I was lucky enough to spend some time this week. Walking in these wide open spaces always bring me a sense of freedom and connection with our surroundings, and a feeling of being grounded with the earth. There is also a sense of 'spirit' in these wild places, and an awareness of all who have lived here and worked these fields since ancient times.
I have recently been reading John O' Donohue's 'Anam Cara - spiritual wisdom from the Celtic World'. In it, he writes: 'There is such an intimate connection between the way we look at things and what we actually discover. If you can learn to look at yourself and life in a gentle, creative and adventurous way, you will be eternally surprised at what you can find'. Living with gentleness, creativity and just a little bit of adventure sounds good to me - and you never quite know what you will find.
