Hello, I'm Emma Spick - welcome to my counselling practice 'Humans Being' Counselling. I am a fully qualified counsellor, working with people from all walks of life on the many different issues involved in being human. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their code of ethics.
'People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be'
My approach is largely person-centred (although I will bring in other modalities where appropriate). In person-centred work, we believe that you are the expert on yourself and will be able to find your own solutions when you have the space and support to work things through.
Life can feel like a rollercoaster and it can be hard to find your own voice in the 'noise' of society. Nothing in life is certain and whilst change can sometimes feel exciting and welcome, there are other times when it can feel overwhelming. Talking things through with someone and allowing your own voice a time to be heard in a non-judgemental space can be helpful in finding your feet again.
My aim is to provide a warm, welcoming, supportive and non-judgemental space for anyone looking to take the first steps to finding fulfilment and connection within themselves and with others. We all differ in that our life journeys are unique but we are also all the same in that we are all human - finding a connection with our own voices can ease some of the anxiety and tension brought about by daily life. We explore any issues you bring in a non-judgemental, safe and peaceful space and our work together will be a journey very much at your own pace.
People come to me for support with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Problems with addiction
Grief, loss or bereavement
Work or retirement
I currently work in person from comfortable and quiet rooms in Ripon and Thirsk, welcoming clients from a wide area including Hambleton and York, Wetherby, Harrogate and Richmond. I can also work online and by phone.
Sessions usually last 1 hour and can be weekly or fortnightly.
I offer a free 30 minute introductory appointment by phone during which we can explore the things that are worrying you and what you are hoping to gain from your counselling journey. It will also involve a short assessment so that I can decide how to support you in the best and safest way and look for a good starting point in our work together.
Counselling sessions cost £45 and payment can be by cash or bank transfer. Please give 24 hours notice for appointment cancellation.
